Airline penalized for delay in India

An Indian consumer court has ruled that airlines must compensate passengers for flight delays and sudden cancelations that cause mental agony and harassment, a news report said Tuesday.

Justice J. D. Kapoor ordered private airline, Go Air, to pay 15,000 rupees ($380) each as compensation to the passengers who had booked tickets on a New Delhi-Mumbai flight last February, the Hindustan Times reported.

PROMOTE INDIA AS THE NEW EMERGING MEDICAL VALUE TRAVEL DESTINATION

The Tourism and Culture Minister Smt. Ambika Soni has stressed the need to promote India as the new emerging Medical Value Travel destination abroad. She was speaking at the 4th India Health Summit here today. Smt. Soni said the way medial tourism has developed in recent times is largely linked to economics and technology and India is positioning itself as the primary medical destination for the most complex medical procedures in the world. She said we need to work out a strategy to retain our pre-eminence in this area. The Minister said, her Ministry in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the Industry is committed to making this happen.

Expedia to expand into India next year

Expedia Inc., the world’s largest online travel agency with more than $17 billion in annual gross travel bookings, plans to grow even larger early next year when it establishes operations in India.

Sharat Dhall, managing director of Expedia’s yet-to-be launched India subsidiary, confirmed in mid-October that the company will launch a Web portal specifically for Indians. The announcement put an end to several years of speculation about when – or if – Expedia would enter India.
