Air travel agencies all over the country will go on a one-day strike on Thursday (August 14) to extend their support to a day-long strike called by All India Travel Association.
The strike is to protest against the airline companies' decision to stop paying commission to agencies in return for travel bookings from November 1.
Airlines currently pay a commission of five per cent to registered travel agents for bookings, but will halt this practice from November 1. Airlines like Air India, Jet Airways and Kingfisher Airlines are among the carriers that have decided to go in for a 'zero commission' policy for travel agents due to the losses they are suffering due to high aviation turbine fuel costs.
